Drug addiction is national problem. Overcoming addiction requires a comprehensive approach that includes changes in education, the healthcare industry, mental health treatment, and law enforcement. To help end our nation's addiction crisis, I will:
Work to establish a 7-day limit on initial opiate prescriptions.
Work with pharmaceutical lobbyists and manufacturers to lower the cost of naloxone (Narcan) so its affordable for first responders to have it, and require individuals who receive Narcan to be treated for the underlying addiction.
Decriminalize marijuana and prioritize rehabilitation over incarceration for vulnerable communities.
